Dear Velo-One Nation and Velo-One members,
Since the establishment of Velo-One Cycling in 2007 the club has surpassed all of my expectations and initial visions. The simple concept of creating a community that revitalizes the core essence of what a club should feel like has been the focus. The word "club" means different things to different people, and unfortunately has lost much of its value from some of its historical meanings. Seeing this trend and having such a passion for cycling knowing the bond it creates between people, I started V1. Since 2007 I have put everything into Velo-One, all while finishing school, raising a family and working full time as a Nurse. Yes, there have been many well appreciated volunteers that have helped along the way, but this journey has been a 2nd full time job, which has spread me and my family thin. Over the past two years it has affected many areas of the club and it's vision. The roots of Velo-One run deep and well beyond cycling. The club has brought together people from many walks of life, formed lifelong friendships and even a couple marriages along the way. I secretly feel a scenes of pride, knowing that 2011 brought us our first "V1" baby. For me and my family, Velo-One is part of our family. It has brought us more joy and satisfaction than we could have ever imagined. Even though the values of Velo-One have been unchanged; surrounding economic, community and member needs have required us to make changes throughout the seasons to keep the interest of our members as a priority. Fort Collins Colorado has seen a fantastic growth in its cycling culture, which shows no signs of fading. Velo-One Cycling is here to stay, and will play an important roll within the community for years to come to ensure continued growth of cycling as a sport, lifestyle and economic contender in Fort Collins.
With these mighty goals in mind, Velo-One Cycling will be restructuring to allow for the inclusion of some important elements into its core foundation. A club should not be measured by size, but by its offerings and impact it has on its members and community. This alue will ensure sustainability in this cycling town for years to come.
The New Velo-One will see the formation and revitalization of a grassroots racing program for both men and women as well as a race mentoring program to ensure that new racers are given the tools and knowledge to have fun and succeed.
Recreational cyclist of all levels will also be provided the information and assistance to be safe, active and well informed riders. Through clinics, mentoring and club support, V1 riders will be role models in the community.
2012 will be a true remodeling year for this club. Membership into Velo-One has been stopped for the 2012 season while I personally focus on the start of a new career, family and what will soon become the backbone of an all new VELO-ONE.
So, for those of you who have already joined for 2012, I sincerely appreciate you support and trust in V1, but I will not be placing a 2012 clothing order and do not feel that I can provide the quality program that V1 members deserve. Therefore, I will honor a full refund of all money paid for 2012 memberships. Please understand that this is a difficult pill to swallow even though temporary. I do have extra clothing for those wanting to race in 2012. The Calendar for 2012 is a clean slate, but I will be leading a Masters road, Mtb, and Cyclocross team in 2012 with a primary focus on training, racing and competition. Velo-One will continue to hold an ACA/USAC team license for those wanting to race under the V1 banner for 2012.
Our goal is aimed towards a fal launch of a New V1 CX team and a club launch in 2013. Other cool stuff is on the radar as well.
I truly thank every single person that has contributed to this club over the years and hope that you will re-join after V1 goes through some important changes. Those moving to other teams, I wish you luck and success.
Please contact me personally with any and all questions. For those interested in contributing in the future foundation of Velo-One, I will discuss incentives and needs on an individual basis.
